Infant Conjunctivitis. Three Things That Help!

Picture it. You go in to wake your little one up in the morning or they are just waking up from a nap and your baby's eye is all crusty and red. Chances are they have a case of conjunctivitis. Sounds terrible huh? But what is it? It's inflammation over the eye ball and inside the eyelids. It's an infection that can be caused by a virus or bacteria. It can also be a part of a cold. It's common and very contagious. So you have to be careful if you suspect your little one has a case of this. Recently my two month old developed a case. I wasn't able to get her in to see her Pediatrician as soon as I would have liked so I had to make sure she was taken care of at home. Here are three remedies that helped me!

Number 1.

Keep it clean! It seemed like every time my little one fell asleep the crust would magically build up. Keeping their eye(s) clean when they wake up in the morning and from naps is one way to keep them comfortable and it's also a way to cut down on spreading it.

Number 2.

A warm compress. My baby girl seemed to love it when I did this. I would warm

up a towel and place it on the eye that was infected. She would just sit there and chill. It seemed to bring her some comfort. This method does help soothe the area so use it as often as needed throughout the day.

Number 3.

Water and salt. This method cleared up her conjunctivitis before we even went in to the pediatrician. We would boil a cup of water and add a teaspoon of salt. Once the water cooled down a bit we would take a cotton ball, dip it in the water (I would pour the water in a mug) and squeeze out any extra water in the cotton ball. We would then take the cotton ball and start from the part of her eye closest to her nose and swipe it to the other end. I would do that three times. Literally her eye was clear in one day!

With anything that you feel you need to see the pediatrician for, please do so! The methods above helped me out tremendously but aren't meant to replace medical recommendations! Are there any methods you've tried that helped? Please share!

Until next time.

Sending you peace, love, and light!
